State Assessment Information

Pennsylvania State Assessment Information for Parents

At Central Greene School District, we believe that assessments play a vital role in understanding student achievement and guiding instructional strategies. The Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) and Keystone Exams are state-mandated assessments designed to measure how well students have mastered state standards in key academic areas.

Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA)

The PSSA is administered annually to students in grades 3 through 8 in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Additionally, students in grades 4 and 8 are assessed in Science. The PSSA helps the district identify areas of strength and growth, informing instruction to better meet the needs of our students.

Keystone Exams

The Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments in three subject areas: Algebra I, Literature, and Biology. These exams are taken by high school students and serve as one of the pathways to graduation. The results help gauge proficiency in these subjects and contribute to overall student academic progress.

Why Are These Assessments Important?

  • Student Progress: These assessments provide valuable insights into student progress toward meeting state standards.
  • Instructional Planning: Results help teachers adjust instruction and ensure that all students receive the support they need to succeed.
  • District Accountability: Scores contribute to school and district-level accountability measures, helping the district maintain high academic standards.

Supporting Your Child

Parents can play an important role in helping their children prepare for these assessments by:

  • Encouraging regular attendance and engagement in school.
  • Supporting good study habits and a positive attitude toward testing.
  • Ensuring that your child gets plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast on test days.
