    The School District

Central Greene School District became a merged district in 1962 when the Borough of Waynesburg and the townships of Perry, Whiteley, Franklin, Wayne and Washington agreed to the merger.  The district operates one elementary school, K-6, and one junior-senior high school, 7-12.  A professional staff, teachers, support personnel and administrators are dedicated to providing the finest educational programs possible to the students of the Central Greene School District.

    The Community

Central Greene School District is located about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh and 20 miles north of Morgantown, WV, with convenient access to I-79.  The area has a rich heritage due to early farming and mining and a strong tradition maintained by several generations of residents who have established familial roots in the area.  The borough of Waynesburg is the county seat and houses the  government and the main commerce center.  The community is characterized by a diversity of farming, mining, and related small retail businesses and shopping areas which, coupled with the growth potential, results in a vibrant, yet secure, school community in which to live.

The area is enhanced by the sports and recreation opportunities available at the water park, athletic fields, and theater; educational opportunities at the Universities of West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Pennwest, Waynesburg University and Westmoreland County Community College; and Greene County Museum. A small-town atmosphere with easy access to the cultural and educational opportunities of two major metropolitan centers make the Central Greene School community an excellent choice.
