...to Central Greene's Gifted Services website.
2015-2016 is shaping up to be another exciting year in Gifted Services.
In addition to gifted individualized education plans (GIEPs), our gifted students have many opportunities to participate in various activities.
We will once again sponsor a Junior League Quiz Bowl team for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Quiz Bowl is a Jeopardy-style question and answer competition in which knowledge in Literature, Science, Mathematics, Arts, Music, Religion, Mythology, Philosophy, History, Geography, General Knowledge, Current Events, Pop Culture, and Sports is quizzed. Our teams will compete with their counterparts from Albert Gallatin, Avella, Brownsville, Carmichaels, Jefferson-Morgan, Laurel Highlands, Southeastern Greene (Mapletown), Uniontown and West Greene school districts. Competitions are hosted at Penn State, Fayette Campus and sponsored by the Tri-County Academic League.
Our high school students also have the opportunity to participate in the Senior League Quiz Bowl (see Mr. Kelly & Mrs. Lipscomb) and Debate teams (see Mr. Rossi).
We will once again participate in a Scrabble Tournament. Scrabble is a board game that involves strategy and luck. Students use the rules set up by the Fayette Invitational Regional Scrabble Tournament. Students benefit from playing Scrabble in the areas of spelling, vocabulary building, math, decision making, risk taking, good sportsmanship, fair play, and social skills.
Our elementary students (grades 3 through 5) will once again compete in America's Battle of the Books at Waynesburg University. Middle school gifted students may participate in their grade levels by talking with the librarians.
I hope you are as excited as I am about Central Greene's Gifted Services program and look forward to seeing you soon!
