• Helpful Hints and Wish List

Assignment Books:  The school district provides assignment books for our students to use daily.  Please check your child's assignment book each night.  During the day, I write your child's assignments on the board and they are to copy them in their assignment book.  I do walk around and check to be sure that they have copied down their assignments.  However, I believe that by 4th grade, students should be striving toward independence.  Therefore, I do not check these each day unless the student is having trouble completing their assignments.

Homework:  Students are expected to complete their assignments on time.  If a student does not complete an assignment, they will go to the study room during their recess time to complete the assignment.  It will also count against them in the broken arrow incentive program developed by our school.  At the end of each 9 weeks, 4th grade students that have received less than 6 broken arrows will participate in an incentive.

Test Papers:  I send all test papers home to be signed and returned.  I feel that it is very important for your child to share their progress with you.  If your child receives a "D" or an "F", they are required to bring it back signed by you.  If they receive an "A", "B", or "C", they have the option of bringing it back signed for bonus points.  They will have 3 days to return the test either way.

Book Orders:  I will try to send a book order home each month.  Book orders are a great opportunity to purchase books at discounted prices.  If you choose to order, please enclose the order form and payment in an envelope marked "book order".  Payments can be made with cash or checks made payable to "Scholastic".  Due dates should be stapled to the front of each order or written in your child's agenda.  When they arrive, books will be sent home with your child unless other arrangements have been made.

Water Bottles:  Students are permitted to bring a water bottle with them to class each day.  However, if they become a distraction during class time, the student will be asked to put them into their backpacks for the remainder of the day.

Snacks:  I allow time for healthy snacks in the mornings each day as we eat at a later lunch period.  Students are to bring these snacks for themselves each day.  If they do not bring a snack, one will not be provided for them.  Acceptable snacks are fruits, vegetables, cereal bars, granola bars, crackers, pretzels, half a sandwich, etc.  Snacks should not include chips, sweets, yogurts, or any liquids.

Birthdays:  Birthdays are very special to students.  Therefore, feel free to send in a treat on your child's birthday.  If your child has a summer birthday, you can send in something during the last week of school when we have a summer celebration party (information will be coming home at the end of the year).

Donations / Wish List:  We are always in need of some items.  If you find that you would like to donate tissues, hand sanitizer, clorox wipes, snacks, pencils, etc... we would be thrilled.  In the past, I have had parents donate Walmart gift cards and I would purchase items as well.  I am always looking for new and used books for my classroom library.  If you have some that you would like to share, I would LOVE to have them!!
