Central Greene School District (CGSD) became a merged district in 1962 when the borough of Waynesburg and the townships of Perry, Whiteley, Franklin, Wayne, and Washington agreed to the jointure. The district operates two elementary buildings (K-5), one middle school (6-8), and one high school (7-12). A professional staff of 178 teachers, 90 support personnel, and 12 administrators are dedicated to providing the finest educational programs possible to the students of CGSD
The Community
Central Greene School District is located about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh and 20 miles north of Morgantown, W.V., with convenient access to I-79. The area has a rich heritage due to early farming and mining and a strong tradition maintained by several generations of residents who have established familial roots in the area. The borough of Waynesburg is the county seat and houses the government, the main commerce center, and the county hospital. The community is characterized by a diversity of farming, mining, and related small retail businesses and shopping areas which, coupled with the growth potential, results in a vibrant, yet secure, school community in which to live. The area is enhanced by the sports and recreation opportunities available at the swimming pool, athletic fields and theater; educational opportunities of the Universities of West Virginia, Pittsburgh, California, Waynesburg College; and Greene County Museum. A small town atmosphere within easy access to the cultural and educational opportunities of two major metropolitan centers makes the Central Greene School community an excellent choice.
We give back
Our facilities act as a community center for the greater Waynesburg area. The athletic field is used every day of the week for school and community events. The auditorium is used year round for a variety of performances. Our pool is accessed in the evenings for community swim time, by the high school PE classes, and by the elementary students. After school hours see many athletes in the halls as well as adults taking college courses and their children in the free childcare facilities.
